Rheem Heat Pump

Rheem has two heat pumps in its catalogue. They are the Rheem HDi-310 Heat Pump and the Rheem MPi-325 Series II Heat Pump.

Heat pumps are the latest way of heating water. They are electric, but that doesn’t mean they use electricity to heat the water. They use a refrigerant, which by means of some clever alchemy extracts warmth from the air and heats up the water. They are often described as a sort of fridge in reverse. Apart from solar, they are the cheapest hot water systems to run.

The HDi-310 Heat Pump has a design that heats the water from the top down, which means that hot water is concentrated at the top of the tank and can be reheated rapidly, thus lessening any waiting for hot water if it’s all been used because the whole tank then doesn’t have to be heated up. It has frost protection and has a back-up element for freezing winter nights.

The Rheem MPi-325 Series II Heat Pump uses whisper technology to ensure quiet operation and has multi-pass heating of the water.

Rheem Gas Hot Water System

Rheem gas hot water systems are divided into two broad categories – gas storage and gas continuous flow. Rheem gas storage hot water systems come in a range that suits a big family or a smaller household. They all have extremely good hot water recovery so that in the rare event that all of their stored hot water is used up, it can be replaced and ready to go in around an hour.

There are 4 and 5 star energy rated versions, so you can select a more efficient model if that is what is most important to you. The greatest advantage of gas storage is that you get mains pressure to multiple taps. That means there isn’t a sudden drop off of hot water in the shower if someone decides to use hot water in the kitchen.

Rheem gas continuous flow hot water systems never run out of hot water because they don’t have a store of hot water that diminishes. Instead, they heat the water as you use it. Rheem gas continuous flow systems are available at two preset temperatures – 50°C or 60°C. Households with a high demand for hot water can get larger systems that can heat up to 27 litres per minute. You can even link 2 Rheem gas continuous systems and have a generous 54 litres per minute of hot water.

Rheem Solar Hot Water System

Rheem has a comprehensive range of solar hot water systems. There are 15 models in the range and they are either Loline or Hiline. Rheem Loline solar hot water systems are split systems that have solar panels on the roof and a storage tank on the ground.

Alternatively, Rheem Hiline solar hot water systems are more traditional close-coupled systems with the tank and panels together on the roof.

Solar hot water is the cheapest way to heat water because it uses free sunshine to do this instead of electricity or gas. It is not as effective on days that are heavily overcast and as a result, Rheem solar hot water systems have either an electric or a gas booster. The gas boosters are continuous flow and only heat water as needed, so they are the most environmentally friendly versions.

In colder parts of Australia, you don’t have to do without the benefits of solar because Rheem has models designed especially for frost-prone regions.  Some have only limited frost tolerance, but there are 4 models that are completely frost protected.

Rheem Electric Hot Water System

Rheem is famous for their electric hot water systems. These are the ones that are “steady, hot and strong”. Electric storage hot water systems – of which Rheem has no fewer than 30 varieties – are renowned for their ability to deliver mains pressure hot water to multiple taps throughout the home.

Although electric storage hot water systems have gained a reputation as being expensive to run, they are better than they were and can even be a sensible and environmentally beneficial choice if they are paired with solar panels.
