The Metropolitan Plumbing Dripping Tap Ad that Started it all
Drip, Metropolitan Plumbing. Drip, Metropolitan Plumbing. Drip, Metropolitan Plumbing. If you are from Adelaide, you will likely remember our old dripping tap TV ad.
And if you don’t, or you’re not from Adelaide, here is a refresher.
The ad originated in 2009 and left a lasting impact on its Adelaide audience. It was designed as a branding exercise to catch people’s attention and highlight the Metropolitan brand across the state. To this day, the original ad is still firmly entrenched in the Adelaide community.
The ad also drew attention to the need to fix a dripping tap. Australia is the world’s second driest continent after Antarctica and drought is one of the biggest environmental issues facing the country today. Water taken from the environment and allowed to drip away down the drain is a completely needless waste.
Metropolitan Plumbing Managing Director David Ellingsen says a single dripping tap could waste enough water to fill a small swimming pool over a year – a whopping 20,000 litres.
“Water is such a precious resource, especially in Australia where we’ve experienced some of the worst drought conditions in a generation. It’s amazing to think that a single dripping tap could have such a huge impact on our water usage. If Australia was to fix every dripping tap in every home tomorrow, we would have millions of litres of extra water as a nation.”
Leaking taps are one of the most common plumbing problems in Australian homes. Because they are more of a nuisance than a complete breakdown of essential plumbing, people tend to put off dealing with them. But they are one of the simplest appliances to replace or fix. Worn washers are most often the culprit behind a leaking tap. Anyone with a shifting spanner and access to the internet can find out exactly how to replace a tap washer in minutes.
Other problems include loose or worn O-rings and corrosion of the valve seat. When the tap gets to this state, it’s not difficult to get out to your local hardware store to buy a replacement. But for people who just don’t have the time or inclination to exercise their inner handyman, there is always the plumber.
In 2020, we gave the old Metropolitan drip ad a revamp and rolled it onto screens in different states.
The new ad was screened in Adelaide and Melbourne to revise the dripping noise. The ad also highlighted the fact that Metropolitan Plumbing has rebranded and expanded into the electrical and air conditioning sectors. It also featured our new no extra charge for after hours, 1 hour service and interest free selling points.
Same price for after hours means that it doesn’t matter if it’s a public holiday, weekend or late at night, we charge the same great rates across all services. 1 hour service means that for all general maintenance and emergency services, we can be there within the hour and deliver same day services. And we offer $0 deposit, interest free options, as well as Zip Pay, so you can pay in easy and flexible instalments.
The ad also highlighted our recent Product Review 2020 National Plumbers Award. The annual Product Review awards are given to products and services that have been highly rated by customers. This award highlights our ongoing dedication to outstanding customer satisfaction. The award further recognised the amazing levels of customer satisfaction we have achieved over the past year by providing exceptional 24 hour emergency and general maintenance plumbing services.
Two months later, we revamped the ad once again. And this time we also rolled it out to Brisbane and Perth as well. Take a look at our current ad below.
The ad has come a long way since its humble Adelaide beginnings. We are very proud of it and continue to strive for higher customer satisfaction levels.
